Full Version: Some suggestins for MindMap
You're currently viewing a stripped down version of our content. View the full version with proper formatting.
1. The option to choose a default font for mindmaps (not only for notes) is required - it is very inconveniently now to edit topics: for example I use Verdana (Icon_cool for all topics and have to edit font for every topic I create or periodicaly select all topic to change font.

2. Ability to add tables is one of the most missing feature for me! Icon_sad

3. Why can't MINDMAP resize objects with saving proportions (using Shift) like most of all photo editors?

4. I was surprised that there is no ability to add text above or beteath connection lines. I was sure it's one of the basic features for mindmaps. (for example see here: http://www.imindmap.com)

5. I think nothing will come of tasks in mindmaps if there is no reminder module. Visual Mind for example, can stay working when all mindmaps are closed and remind about tasks (see "Additional elements" here: http://www.visual-mind.com/compareeditions.html)

6. To say the truth I've never seen such an option, but think it can be very useful. Sometimes I need to attach some files to the topic (html pages, text notes, spreadsheets or other) - it will be very usefull to pack mindmap and all attached files to one container to be sure that relations between files will no dissapere.

Thank You.
Hi,

1. You can set up default font for topic text easily. Just create first topic, set it the font you want, and click "Apply to current level" in Format Topics dialog (inspector on Mac) or topic themes list.
2. Actually, we've got some cool table import feature. Drag'n'drop or copy and paste some table, for instance from Microsoft Excel, and you'll see it as "topic-table" in MINDMAP. Maybe you'll find it interesting.
3. MINDMAP do support proportional resizing. It is used by default for images and clipart, and is turned on by holding Shift key for shape drawings. If you expect to see resizing topic in such way, may be you're epexting the wrong thingIcon_smile Topics in MINDMAP are sized dynamicly and automaticly, basing on preffered width, that you can set by dragging vertical border of topic (which you can find looking similiar to resizing, but actually it's not).
4. This feature is one of most askable and will be implemented in the next version of ConceptDraw Office MINDMAP. While your are using current version, you can add any text anywhere as a floating topic. Holding Control key (Command on Mac) make double click at the point, where you need a text and start typing;
5. That's interesting idea, I'll check if we've got anything like this in backlog. The idea, we put in adding task info to topics is the thoughts and tasks dual nature. You can add some information for idea you have, such as time when you plan to work on it and whose help you will need, and then see exactly the same information when you'll open your mindmap in ConceptDraw PROJECT.
6. We're planning to implement this feature in new version too.

Two more suggestions.

I. MindMap is short of extended aligning options for selected topics such as:
- align top edges
- align vertical centers
- align bottom edges
- align left edges
- align horizontal centers
- align right edges
- distribute top edges
- distribute vertical centers
- distribute bottom edges
- distribute left edges
- distribute horizontal centers
- distribute right edges

II. In addition to map themes topic themes, that can be applied to one or more selected topics, are required - like MSO's 2007 figure styles.
Thank you, we will remember this!

I'm afraid it doesn't work as I expected. I have to "Apply to current level" for each level I create instead of to set proper font and size once.
May be "Apply to all levels" will be good addition?

I think it will.
Thank you very much, all your suggestion was carefully registered.
Thanks.
One more idea is dedicated to navigation functionality.
Some features in this field are required IMHO:
1. To set topic or subtopic as link to another topic/subtopic on current page, topic/subtopic on other page, other page (main topic).
2. Add "Go to page" and "Go to topic" dialogs (with ability to sort pages/topics by creation date and name).
3. Add "Next page" - "Previous page" buttons: existing Page Navigator is too slow.
Hi,

Your interest and ideas is a great pleasure for us!
1. Every topic in MM has a hyperlink field, which can be accessed through Hyperlink floating dialog (inspector on Mac). There you can choose a hyperlink types and among others — link to topic, which can point to any topic in your mindmap.
2. I think navigation by date is interesting idea. We'll think how to make it in the best way.
3. There're keyboard shortcuts for navigating between pages Ctrl(Cmd)+Page Up, Ctrl(Cmd)+Page Down. We will consider adding optional toolbar buttons or maybe some other navigation controls.

Waiting for your next ideas:)

Excuse my inattention. I'm not so experienced MindMap's user yet. I saw it, but as it's called "Hyperlink" I unreasonably thought it means only web-link.

1. Hide-arrow for outline window: I understand, that F3 is used to switch beetwen view modes, but at first time I misled myself when tried to switch to "Map Only" mode from "Map and Outline" - in View menu there is "Outline Only", but there is no "Map Only". So, even using F3 it's impossible to switch from "Map and Outline" to "Map Only" view instantly (yet it's possible to use resize and drop outline window to the left, but it means wasting time). Hide-arrow or close button for outline window will allow to switch from "Map and Outline" to "Map Only" mode at one step.

2. Sometimes there are a lot of relations between topics. It being the case that relation lines overlap some topics - it becomes difficult to read them. I suggest to add "Temporary hide relations" button on the toolbar - while it's pressed, no relations are showed.

In addition to this it will be great to have an option (or/and command) to sent all relation lines to back - in big maps otherwise it's impossible to make out some topics among lots of relation lines but sending them back one by one is too wasting.

3. Did You see the new zoom panel concept of MSO2007 and OOo 3.0? I think it's a good idea to use this approach in MindMap - not only for zoom, but also for Topic Levels. Smth. like this:

Collapse--1--2--3--4--5--Expand All

4. As there is integration between MindMap and Project it will be usefull I think to have an ability to sort topics in Outline View by Start Date, Due Date and Complete % - of cource only thouse topics that have theese fields, other topics can be sorted after them by A/Z for example or creation date. It will give more potential to observe new and old tasks and there implementation.

Actually we've got something very similar in Mac version and we're planning a huge interface redesign for Windows version. Thanks for your help with this.

May be you will find Map > Topic Levels menu interestingIcon_smile

For this, or more complex operation with task info you can use ConceptDraw PROJECT. Just open your mindmap in Project by clicking Open in PROJECT in a file menu or on toolbar. You will find all sorting options in a context menu for column headers in PROJECT window.

And about relations... we're planning something very cool to solve this and many other mess-related problems.
