Hi,
I am using Mindmap 5.2 on my macbook for my studies. During sessions I try to map what the teachers are trying to tell us.

Here are some things I would like to do - If any of this is already possbile now pls. tell me how - if not pls consider to put this features in the next version of Mindmap.

I like to print out the maps (or export them to pdf for mailing purpose). What i badly miss is the possibilty to add a header and footer to documents (like in word or many many other programms I know. It would be very helpful to have the title, the date and a page number any maybe some copyright-note to be printed on all pages.

Another strange thing is that even if I deactivated the Map-Autoarrangement item on my menu the map still changes sometimes when I add a new top or subtopic. Is it possible to to totally deactivate such behavior ? It took my sometimes long to arrange the map again the way I like.

Thanks a lot,
Tom from cold Germany
Hi Tom,

You are in luck because you have a Mac. Both Tiger and Leopard Mac OSX versions allow you to print to a PDF file. Just select Print Map from the File menu. In the lower left hand corner of the Print Menu is PDF, click on that and select Save as PDF. This is available in ALL of your programs because it is a part of Apple's operating system.

Now for the header or footer these is presently no way to do this, but there is a way for you to add Notes to each of your Mind Map items. Then you can print out the notes from the Print Notes menu (and save those to PDF if you want just like the Map).

Finally, I also suffer from Mindmap (v5.2.1) sometimes re-adjusting my map for no good reason. It also seems that the larger the map (the more nodes) the more this happens. And of course the longer it takes to manually re-arrange it all back. This is a Concept Draw problem that I hope they will correct in their next update.

Regards (from sunny California!)
Eric

Hi Eric,
first thanks a lot for your reply.
Second just for the record - I am jealous for the sunny weather you have and I have to wait another couple of months to come back ...

Now to to actual points:
Of course I was able to print to pdf - probably I just did not express this well enough in my post.

I did not get your idea about the notes. The way I see it I cannnot print maps with notes together - so why should I add the notes ?
I tried to add a floating topic to all pages (manually and each time changing the page 1 of 6 line ....). But first of all it prints out on each page in a different size (depending on the size of my map) and on a differenz position (I tried to manually move this floating topic around till it is more or less in the upper middle)

But since this is a major issue for me and causes me much headache I might look again in some alternative software (I just bought the MindmapPro and the ConceptDraw a few weeks ago) to get proper print feature.
I don't know if Odessa could and would improve there software in this area soon (my school is over in 18 months and I don't like to wait long for prober print results).

The second issue (The map rearraning strange when adding later an topic) is IMHO really also a bug and I am glad to read that you see it the same way.

Hi Tom - well I am in Canada now and it is cold and snowing...

You are correct there is no way to add a header/footer. I was able to save the Map as a PDF and edit it using Adobe Acrobate 8 Pro (an expensive solution), but even then each page would require separate editing before printing as that software does not utilize header/footers.

I was hoping that either Apple's Preview or Adobe Acrobat Reader would be able to accomplish this but neither will work.

The other thing that I noticed in MindMap v5.2.1 is that all of my maps print out shrunk to one page. I could find no way to print a large map over several pages (and then tape them together). I know that previous versions you could do this, but not now. That feature would be critical for really large maps (I have several).

Regards,

Eric

Eric, go to printing tab at document properties dialog. There you can set a number of pages your map will fit to.

Hi,
is there a way to find out how CSO thinks about my feature requests? It seems that both - the printing with header/footer and the automatic re-arranging - disturb other users as well.

Thanks,
Tom
The bug with automatic re-arrangement will fixed very soon, while header/footer capabilities will be available only next Spring when MINDMAP 6 will be released.

that sounds great - I am looking forward to both - the bugfix and the spring release.
