I am migrating branches all over the world based on a consistently changing schedule. This schedule provides me with branch name and date of dayone.
I have been fumbling around with all sorts of project management software and nothing seems to perform this seemingly simple task.
I have a Project with All my branches
I have subtasks like
Task1: Draft -60days
Task2: Review -32days
Task3: Submit -30days
Task4: Request -14days
etc...
Task9: DayOne
So if i change the dayone date I want all tasks for that branch to change based on the t-days.
I create a template of tasks for North America, Asia Pacific, Latin America and Europe. Then I copy the template and rename to the Branch Name and insert the Dayone date in Task9 and would like the rest of the tasks to update automagically.
Is this a crazy thought that I think this should be fairly easy? Is it possible? Any thoughts, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I will purchase any software that proves this works.
Thank You..

it is not possible in the way you wish it, but since I have a similar problem with my workshops, I may have a work around for you...
First I reconstruct your task for North America

I copied the task with
and ,while I stood at the top task. I renamed the top tasks accordingly

With drag and drop, the top tasks will be moved to the approximate position in time.

As you see, the period will differ from North America to Europe. This is because of the weekends: If a task has a duration of 2 days and starts on a friday, the task will finish at the end of monday, because there are normally no working hours on saturday and sunday. Each block needs to bee adjusted.
In this way I do my scheduling for my workshops. To find the right dates for such an event, I normally work it out in Exel - there at least I can work in the way you described it (-60 day), but without including the weekends :-)
Hope this will help you in your decision!
Thank you for your very well illustrated reply.
I am still very suprised that this task is so difficult to do for project management software.
It is like working backwards from DayOne. Each Task specifying the necessary lead time required for each task.
I do have a spreadsheet that I have working with formulas but it would still be nicer to utilize a project management software for this goal.

Intertask dependencies are available in all the various project software I tested in the last years. They work more or less the same.
As fare as I know, CS Odessa is working on ConceptDraw Project 3.5 and they are listing closely to the needs of its customers :-)

You can lay a link in between two tasks in the predecessor window (Task information) already, but not in the way you need it. If there could be a group selection for dependencies and inside a group you could specify the dependency of each pair... and the pairs could be related even in minus count...
Natalya, could you ask the engineers, weather such a function could be possible?

Have forwarded your question to our Development departmen and as soon as there will be the exact answer, I will write it here.
So far I can suggest one more way (not in -, but...)
You can create the Phase with 9 tasks (9th - DayOne -milestone)
Then link DayOne to the rest 8 tasks with drag-and-drop.
Then select tasks (not the phase) one by one and set the Predecessor (DayOne) with 60, 32,30,14, etc... days Lag.
You will get the one attached.
When you move the DayOne task, the other will be moved too.
Hope it helps:)
Have a great week and a joyful Summer!

Natalie,
This is exactly what I'm trying to do (using 4.1). I tried doing what you said but it didn't work. Just to be clear, I clicked the milestone (day one) first, then drag-and-dropped onto each task that I need to come before the milestone. None of the task dependency relationships would allow the task to take place, say, 5 days before the milestone. And when I slid the milestone, the relationships did not remain fixed. The best I could get was to have the predecessor task finish right on the milestone.... but I need the 1-day duration task to appear 5 days before the milestone and keep that relationship throughout. I believe in project management terms this is called 'lead' (as opposed to 'lag' -- but I could be wrong on that).
Also, I tried looking at the attached screenshot but the system produced an error "The image “http://community.conceptdraw.com/attachment.php?aid=32†cannot be displayed, because it contains errors."
I'm going to try inserting it into the post to see what happens...
