:? title says it best...
how do you delete a "MAIN IDEA" ?
i want to make a different (pre-existing) topic (currently lower in the tree) the main idea, or not have one at all....
thanks, :icon_biggrin:

sorry, but what for do you want to delete MAIN IDEA??? As far as I understand, this app is for mindmapping. Where have you seen the mindmap without Main Idea ??? It's nonsence!!
If you don't like how does it look or its position, try format it or reposition your topics.
There are so many ways to make it cool.
Change its shape and color, add clipart or pictures of your own.
Use your imagination!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi t13,

Dave is right - the hole idea of a MindMap is to have a main idea and let your thoughts drive you...

If you have a main idea and one of the topics ore subtopics should became a new main idea, you simply send this topic to the next page. Both pages will be connected with a link.
And with floating topics you can create a topic without any connections to a main idea...
Since I do not grasped the whole meaning of your question, I hope I could be of help.

Hi Dave3125 & Gerhard,
thanks for the Responce.
it's no so much as i want to Delete my main idea.... i just realized as i was mind mapping that my idea had really drastically changed, and a sub-topic of the main idea becam much more prominant.
there seem to be some very strong properties associated with being a "MAIN IDEA". such as when you move a main idea.... everything else moves with it, and everything below that level can be hidden.
i was really hoping that you could right click on any topic and be able to select something like "make main idea", that would make anything above that topic turn into a subtopic of that "new main idea".
why limit a main idea. :)

ahhhh..... now that might be a good work-around. ;)
(so i've found i can delete a main idea by pushing a map to a new page --> then deleting the link to the original page --> then deleteing the original page. -- quite a few steps, but worth it.) thanks Gerhard!

yes.... i had been doing this.... but they still don't get those magic "Main Idea" properties. hehe. but i do really like this feature as i can work on something independant of a main idea and develop it and later see about how i want it to fit into the other ideas.

yes you were. thanks for your input. i think i might be using MindMap in a different way from most users. i'm hoping that conceptdraw will imbrace some new ideas for the program that would (in my opinion) possibly open their software to new markets, and make it better & easier to use software for everyone.
i'm really enjoying using it so far. i just wish i could have found this years ago!
cheers,

i get the feeling that most of your users are teachers and marketing people. (but i'm sure there are many others, and other types of users --- and i could be very wrong on this, it's just a first impression.)
I'm looking to use it for complex story development (1,000's of topics in a mind map). such as novels and hollywood movie scripts.
maybe i'm wrong. maybe everyone here is using it for this purpose.

I use it most of all to write my speeches and do plan my group sessions as a MindMap. But I use the technique in the group sessions as well, to gather the ideas of the group. And it is remarkable to what conclusions a group will come in this way... and with what an intense motivation!
By the way: my wife is doing MindMaping to write her novels! But she is fixed to paper only - she will not use her computer for it ;-)
